WhatsApp Update: Keep disappearing messages even after they are dead

WhatsApp is working on a feature for future update called kept messages. Using this feature users will be able to keep disappearing messages even after expiration is over and are ostensibly dead for all intents and purposes. Check details.

WhatsApp has a feature called disappearing messages using which you can send messages on the app that will disappear after 24 hours, 7 days, or 90 days. However, expired WhatsApp messages will not really be dead anymore. As per the latest information, the online messaging application is now working on a new introduction to kept messages for a future update of WhatsApp beta for Android, iOS, and Desktop. The feature will let you keep disappearing messages even after expiration. Informing about the same WABetaInfo tweeted, “WhatsApp is working on introducing kept messages! Thanks to this feature, you can keep disappearing messages even after their expiration!”

What is kept message? Giving insights on the same, WABetaInfo said in a report, “It is a disappearing message temporarily converted to a standard WhatsApp message, so it can be kept in the chat even after its expiration.” It further said that kept messages can be viewed within chat info in a new section called ‘Kept messages’, and all people in the conversation can open this section.

It can be noted that when disappearing messages are turned on in a certain chat, the messages can only be kept and cannot be starred. Meanwhile, if you have not yet tried sending disappearing messages, here is how you can do it.

How to enable disappearing messages

1. Open your WhatsApp chat and click the contact’s name.

2. Now click on Disappearing messages. If prompted, tap Continue.

3. You will now have to select the time after which the messages will disappear that is 24 hours, 7 days, or 90 days.

4. Select which chats you want to enable and then click on Done.

How to disable disappearing messages

Step 1:

Open the WhatsApp chat and click on the contact’s name.

Step 2:

Tap Disappearing messages and if prompted, tap Continue.

Step 3:

Then select Off and choose which chats you want to disable.
