Samsung Repair Mode to keep your Photos, Messages, Apps safe at service centre: Know how to use it

July 30, 2022 By Fresh News Hub Leave a Comment

Samsung Repair Mode has been introduced to take care of your personal data while the device is at a service center.

Sending your phone to a service centre is a nightmare, isn’t it? The repair costs are one aspect but keeping your data safe on it is another task. While the only solution is to create a backup of all your data, Samsung has come up with a solution to fix this issue for once and all. It has designed a feature called Repair Mode on its Galaxy devices. The idea is simple – this mode will keep your sensitive data safe from prying eyes at the service station, and prevent the need to reset the device altogether.

The feature will be part of the Battery and Device Care option under Settings menu. Once the feature is activated, the phone will reboot and will open up an interface that is devoid of all your personal data. This personal data will consist of photos, messages, accounts and the installed apps. To the service centre people, it will appear as a brand new phone.

Once the phone has been repaired and is handed back to you, you will be able to deactivate the Repair Mode using the fingerprint sensor or the pattern unlock – just like a regular new phone. The phone will reboot again and will open up to the profile with all your data and settings intact, even the service people have changed it in the Repair Mode.

For the service people, the Repair Mode will create a log of the data that records all the recent issues and the apps that are associated with. Samsung assures that the data won’t be shared with anyone in the log and in the Repair Mode as well. However, for the cynical ones, you can choose to avoid creating a log of the issues as well.

As of now, the Repair mode is coming first to the Galaxy S21 series devices via a future software update. Samsung eventually plans to expand the feature to some other models as well in the future. Additionally, the feature seem to be limited to the Korean markets for now and Samsung could release it later for other markets as well.

We wish more manufacturers adopt this way of keeping the data safe while the device goes for repair.
