August 9, 2022 By Fresh News Hub Leave a Comment

Perseid meteor shower to peak between Aug 11-12. Know when and how you can watch it.

Stargazers are in for a treat this week as the Perseid meteor shower is set to light up the sky between August 11 and 13. It is one of the best meteor shower treats for skywatchers that stretches from mid-July to late August every year and this year it will peak in the early hours of 13th August. It can be spotted from anywhere in the world. As shared by Space. com, this Perseids won’t be as spectacular as they were in 2021, due to the full moon illuminating the sky. Last year, the moon was just a thin crescent and hence, didn’t obscure the view of the meteor shower, however, this year it will be full. According to NASA, on a normal year Perseids shower up to 100 meteors per hour at the peak, while without moonlight, it could be 150-200 meteors an hour. But this year it could be fewer due to full moon.

The Perseids are caused by clouds of debris — bits of ice and rock — left behind by Comet Swift-Tuttle which passed close to Earth in 1992. It peaks when Earth passes through the densest and dustiest area.

Know when and where to look for the spectacular view of meteor showers.

When and where to see meteor showers?

The Perseids shower will peak on August 13, but you might see the shooting stars in the days around then as well. Just try looking on any clear night this week. It’s better to look before its peak rather than after. As per the report, the best time to witness the Perseids meteor shower is just after midnight, from anywhere in the world. You can simply go to the middle of a park or away from street lights or on the roof of your building that is away from obstructions like trees, buildings and other objects.
