Have iPhone, Mac? No passwords required!

With the help of Passkeys, Apple iPhone and Mac users will be able to make passwordless logins. Here is all you need to know.

Remembering passwords is not an easy task. If you are an Apple user and are facing difficulties in remembering passwords then here is something you need to know- Apple is now all set to eliminate passwords while signing in to apps and websites. With more apps asking you to login with an ID and password, remembering them has become a task. If you keep an easy password, there is a risk of getting hacked. While if the password is difficult you may forget it later. Therefore to provide you with a solution, Apple is introducing Passkeys which will let you do passwordless logins on iOS 16 for iPhone and macOS Ventura for Mac later this year.

It can be noted that Apple had announced and informed about Passkeys at the WWDC 2022 event held in the month of June. According to a report by The Sun, Passkeys are likely to take shape in September, when iOS 16 launches alongside the rumoured iPhone 14. “Based on industry standards for account authentication, passkeys are easier to use than passwords and far more secure. Adopt passkeys to give people a simple, secure way to sign in to your apps and websites across platforms — with no passwords required,” Apple’s developer page said.

Here is all you need to know about Passkeys: As already stated, Passkeys eliminated the need for passwords and instead rely on biometric identification like Touch ID and Face ID. Informing about the same, Apple said, “Passkeys use iCloud Keychain public key credentia666ls, eliminating the need for passwords. Instead, they rely on biometric identification, such as Touch ID and Face ID in iOS, or a specific confirmation in macOS for generating and authenticating accounts.” You can even use your iPhone to sign in to apps and websites on non-Apple devices.

According to the information provided by Apple, Passkeys will be quick to log in, and have strong credentials thus making it safe from server leaks and phishing. Also, your Passkeys will be stored on your devices and will sync across multiple gadgets using Apple’s iCloud Keychain.

“Passkeys were designed to be convenient and accessible from all devices used on a regular basis. Passkeys sync across a user’s devices using iCloud Keychain. iCloud Keychain is end-to-end encrypted with strong cryptographic keys not known to Apple and rate limited to help prevent brute-force attacks even from a privileged position on the cloud backend, and are recoverable even if the user loses all their devices,” Apple informed.
