Bank Holidays August 2022: Know when and why banks will remain closed for 13 days; check impact on online banking

Bank Holidays August 2022: The month of August is going to see 13 bank holidays. Check the occasions here. However, online or net banking will remain operative.

Bank Holidays August 2022: Banks will remain closed for 13 days in the month of August due to festivals and other occasions may it be state specific or national. It can be noted that these 13 days of bank holidays in August do not include second and fourth Saturdays and Sundays. While along with second and fourth Saturdays and Sundays, the month of August will see 18 offs. Also, know that online or internet banking will remain operative 24×7. It can be known that the list of bank holidays is released by the Reserve Bank of India on its official website.

Banking activities like depositing money, updating passbook, transferring amount and much more requires you to visit your nearest bank branch. Therefore, making it important for you to know about the days when the bank will remain shut. As per the information provided by the RBI, the bank holidays in June fall under three categories- Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act; Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act and Real Time Gross Settlement Holiday; and Banks’ Closing of Accounts. Bank Holidays in August 2022

1. August 1, 2022: Banks will remain closed only in Gangtok due to the occasion of Drukpa Tshe-zi.

2. August 8, 2022: Banking operations will remain shut in Jammu and Srinagar due to Muharram (Ashoora).

3. August 9, 2022: Banks will remain closed in most parts of the country due to Muharram (Ashoora) except for in Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Gangtok, Guwahati, Imphal, Jammu, Kochi, Panaji, Shillong, Shimla, Srinagar, and Thiruvananthapuram.

4. August 11, 2022: Due to the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, banking operations will remain shut in Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Dehradun, Jaipur, and Shimla.

5. August 12, 2022: Banks will remain closed in Kanpur and Lucknow due to the celebration of Raksha Bandhan.

6. August 13, 2022: Banks only in Imphal will remain shut on August 13 on the occasion of Patriot’s Day.

7. August 15, 2022: On the occasion of Independence Day, banking operations will remain halted in all parts of the country.

8. August 16, 2022: Banks in Belapur, Mumbai, and Nagpur will remain shut on August 16 due to Parsi New Year (Shahenshahi).

9. August 18, 2022: Due to Janmashtami, banks will remain closed in Bhubaneswar, Dehradun, Kanpur, and Lucknow.

10. August 19, 2022: Banks will remain closed in Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Gangtok, Jaipur, Jammu, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, Shimla, and Srinagar due to Janmashtami (Shravan Vad-8)/Krishna Jayanthi.

11. August 20, 2022: Banks will remain shut in Hyderabad on August 20 due to Sri Krishna Ashtami.

12. August 29, 2022: Due to the occasion of Tithi of Srimanta Sankardeva, banks will remain closed in Guwahati.

13: August 31, 2022: Bank in Ahmedabad, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Nagpur, and Panaji due to Samvatsari (Chaturthi Paksha)/Ganesh Chaturthi/Varasiddhi Vinayaka Vrata/Vinayakar Chathurthi.

Apart from the above-mentioned dates, the banks will also remain shut on August 13, 2022, and August 27, 2022, due to second and fourth Saturdays and on August 7, 14, 21, and 28 because of Sundays.
